On April 24, Russian scientists from the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the International Congress of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, held a roundtable discussion titled "Russia and the Republic of Korea: the Far East, the Arctic. Missed Opportunities and Prospects for Cooperation." The roundtable was attended by their international colleagues, business representatives, and government officials. The event was also organized by the International Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the CIS Institute for Security Studies.
This event was held in accordance with the memorandum signed on December 2, 2025, as part of the ICIE Assembly held in Moscow. Experts from the two countries discussed geopolitics, transport, investment, and humanitarian ties. Particular attention was paid to developing new formats of cooperation amid the changing international situation. First Deputy President of the ICIE, M.V. Belopotapov, delivered a welcoming address at the conference.
In the first session, participants raised issues of security and geopolitics. Far Eastern Federal University Professor Artem Lukin will present a report on the new geopolitics of the Korean Peninsula, while the former head of South Korea's Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation, Park Jong-soo, proposed creating an international development zone in the Khasan region. Vice President of the International Committee of the Entrepreneurs, E.A. Rusetsky, delivered a report on "Factors Affecting the Energy Security of the Republic of Korea."
The second session focused on logistics, shipbuilding, and the development of the Northern Sea Route. Participants discussed prospects for technological cooperation, the modernization of the fishing fleet, and the development of port infrastructure.
